beside a long-forgotten highway, a strange motel appears at night–and those who chance upon it should never step inside.

The Black Dog Motel is nestled along a stretch of roadway in the desert surrounding Fort Phantom Hill (NV, USA). Mustang country. Few visitors cross way out here and the neon sounds like broken dreams as it calls out into the night. For the desert does not know you and in the hinterlands your name is lost. Stay for a spell amongst the endless sands?

WILD HORSES SHOULD BE PROTECTED.

We are wild horse advocates. Our not-for-profit, the Institute of the Range works with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to foster horses and burros, train them, and get them adopted.

We manage three ranges. Each cover 500 acres. Horses are sorted by arrival date. Free-roaming conditions are mimicked. Arrivcals are given time to acclimate. Then ground trained, gentled, and adopted out. From arrival to adoption is 1-5 years.

There are always horses for adoption.
